How a small but mighty team in Alberta is making a difference in their community all-year round

Giving-back is a year-round commitment made by Michelle Broadbent and her team at Desjardins Insurance. They've provided donations to local organizations in St. Albert, AB, since the office opened 11 years ago. Each year the amount of donations grows.

Making a difference

Donations have been made to the Kinette Club of St. Albert, the St. Albert Food Bank and Farm to School Alberta. And 2018 year was their best yet with:
  • A total of $4,000 contributed in toy donations, providing gifts to more than 200 children
  • $2,400 in baby diapers and formula
  • Approximately 5,000 pounds of food that helped feed more than 1,000 families in the community

"It takes a village"

Many factors go into a family's ability to get the basic-necessities they need. The Kinette Club of St. Albert President, Kim Bedry, makes it clear that when it comes to urgent calls for help, Michelle's team is quick to respond. Michelle and her team mobilize and are able to have much needed items purchased and delivered to the Kinette Club's storage facility. Kim shares that it does "take a village" to make sure their Christmas Hamper program goes off without a glitch, but that the program wouldn't be as successful without Michelle's team.

Paying it forward

"We're in a close-knit city and it's about paying it forward. Whatever effort you put in, whether big or small, donating items or volunteering your time, it all goes a long way for a family in need," says Michelle. "As a Desjardins Agent, we help people on a regular basis and giving back to the community in this way is so important to who we are."
