Montreal, September 4, 2019 - The Desjardins Foundation is proud to help Fondation Jeunes en Tête and Kids Now support youth mental health, which is an important factor in academic success.

Fondation Jeunes en Tête offers a program called Partners for Life, which teaches good mental health practices to grade 7 and 8 students across Quebec. Their program is designed to provide young people with the skills they need for good mental health. Fondation Jeunes en Tête reaches over 45,000 young people through this program every year.

Kids Now is an Ontario-based organization that runs a similar program. They help students primarily in priority neighbourhoods ages 12 to 14 avoid self-esteem issues by teaching them to make positive choices. The program helps students learn how to make good decisions and boosts their self-esteem, empowering them to see that they deserve what's best for them. Kids Now runs programs in 125 schools in Ontario.

"Good mental health and self-esteem play a critical role in young people's development. And at this critical age, as they transition to young adulthood, prevention and education can truly have a lasting effect," said Nancy Lee, Manager of the Desjardins Foundation.

About Fondation Jeunes en Tête

Fondation Jeunes en Tête aims to prevent psychological distress among youth ages 11 to 18 in Quebec. It carries out this mission by reaching out to young people in schools through its Partners for Life program and by partnering with community organizations that complement its work. It also builds synergy among youth workers to maximize their impact on young people.

About Kids Now

Created by Janet King, a Canadian educator who saw a need to complement the existing school curriculum with life skills development, the Kids Now program has made a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of Canadian kids. Kids Now empowers grade 7 and 8 students to believe they deserve to make positive choices with their lives by providing critical life tools and the ability to know how and why to use them to become successful, confident leaders. Every child deserves the opportunity to lead a healthy and positive life.
