Montreal, February 18 - Desjardins Group President and CEO Guy Cormier attended a scholarship award ceremony on February 17, honouring the 8 students who each received a generous financial donation from Desjardins's business partners.
Over the last few months, a number of Desjardins business partners were asked to show their support for the next generation--the response was very positive. Mortgage insurer Genworth Canada awarded $5,000 to 4 students and Larsen & Toubro Infotech Canada, a global technology consulting and digital solutions firm, donated $3,000 to 2 other scholarship winners. The Synergie Hunt International employment agency will also assist 2 students--one will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the other has been offered a student job with Hunt.
"Giving back to the community is a key priority for us, and because we've proudly partnered with Desjardins for 20 years now, we definitely wanted to support the Desjardins Foundation in its mission to help young people reach their full potential," said Mark Stamm, Vice-President of Business Development with Genworth Canada.
Desjardins Foundation Manager Nancy Lee said, "We're seeing labour shortages in so many different sectors. The support our business partners are offering students is a clear example of our cooperative difference at work!"
The award ceremony took place at the start of Hooked on School Days, a multi-day event held in Quebec designed to remind us that young people need encouragement to reach their goals.
