Toronto, October 1, 2020 - We all have a responsibility to keep our roads safe, and based on our 2020 road safety survey results, we all need to do better when it comes to improving our driving behaviours. That means putting down our phones when we're driving, not operating our vehicles under the influence and better understanding the benefits, as well as limitations, of vehicle safety technologies.
This fall, we're working with our long-standing partner, Parachute, to challenge Canadians to be Canada's Safest Driver. Starting Thursday, October 1, 2020, Parachute will launch this skills-based contest to find and reward Canadians who are committed to driving safely.
"At Desjardins, we believe building strong and safe communities is of the utmost importance and we are committed to reducing collisions, injuries and fatalities on our roads," said Valérie Lavoie, President and Chief Operating Officer, Desjardins General Insurance Group. "We are excited to continue our work with Parachute to find Canada's Safest Driver and encourage Canadians to make road safety a priority."
To participate, download the Canada's Safest Driver contest app, which will evaluate your driving skills based on the following criteria:
- Speed: are you obeying the speed limits on your trip?
- Braking: are you breaking abruptly or safely in advance of your stop?
- Acceleration: do you accelerate quickly and abruptly or at a steady pace?
- Cornering: are you taking your turn smoothly or cutting around at a dangerous angle?
- Texting: don't touch that phone when you're driving!
You must be a Canadian resident with a valid driver's license to enter. The contest will run until Thursday, November 26, 2020, and entrants will be eligible to win cash rewards, including a grand prize of $10,000.
